Choronzon
Although the name Choronzon has been popularized by Aleister Crowley, it originates in the Enochian records of John Dee, where he is synonymous with the serpent of the garden; in modern magickal practice Choronzon is the final obstacle of the abyss, the dark side of the ego, which must be defeated before one attains mastery. The crocodile occasionaly pictured on the first tarot trump is Choronzon, in the guise of Ammit, the "eater of souls" of Egyptian mythology. To the prepared, Choronzon is the beneficient destroyer of the ego, to the unprepared, a force of dispersion or annihlation.
