Scientologese - Engram is a word coined by Dianetics author and Scientology founder L Ron Hubbard to desribe a subconcious mental image or impression, believed by Scientologists to have a lasting negative effect on the psyche and behavior.
According to Hubbard, engrams can be formed from traumatic experiences or even simple impressions of human voices from the womb. Scientologists often attempt to avoid the creation of engrams by maintaining perfect quiet in delivery rooms, a process known as silent birth.
