Belief in the Evil Eye is quite ancient, and is still quite common in many parts of the world, especially in the Middle East and throughout the Mediterranean. The evil; eye was once viewed as a malevolent cursing power specific to witches and other malific powers, but today it is largely viewed as a state of ill usually brought about by an envious glance. Beliefs about who can give this glance vary; often people with blue eyes, peculiar eyebrows, etc. are singled out
Methods for eradicating the ill effects vary from culture to culture. Charms for preventing the evil eye include blue "eye" beads, bells, and reflective objects.
