Geomancy is
a
method of divination practiced by 'reading' features of the environment,
such as the skyline, or the 'lay of the land,' or even the layout of a
room. The
practice of Feng Shui involves geomantic practices. Somew forms of geomancy
involve maps, chessboards or other representations of land.
Another 'geomancy'
is a medieval divination method that is not actually geomantic, but involves
placing astronomical glyphs in a horoscope grid. It is this type that is
best known in western magic. (Go figure)
