In Santeria/Lukumi, The Table of Ifa is a one of several divinatory devices attributed to the Orisha Orunmila. Only the Babalawo is qualified to use the Table of Ifa. It consists of a carved wooden tray, on which prepared coconut shells or cowries are "thrown," as part of a complex divinatory system. The patterns made by the shells are called "Odu," and relate to stories and oral traditions of the Yoruban people of Africa.
Pronunciation: Ee-fah (noun)
