One of the most important deities of the Egyptian pantheon, Isis was the wife and sister of Osirus and the mother of Horus. She was the patron of magic, learning, love, and motherhood; she was the power of the Pharoahs and usually portrayed as a throne or wearing a throne on her head. She is also the goddess of day, a counterpart to her sister Nephthys, or night.

The city of Paris (Per-Ise) is named for her.
