The sinister, or Left Hand Path traditionally refers to the practice of black magick; that is, the use of magic for personal power or material gain. Today, it usually refers to the path of the Satanist or any other tradition which places the needs and desires of the individual or the temporal over those of the spiritual of the "greater good." The phrase originates in the ancient belief that the left side (Latin, sinister) represented the dark side of human nature.
