In Hebrew Kabbalah, the nephesh (Nefesh) is one of the three parts of the Human
soul. Nephesh means animal, and refers to the physical body, and the animal instincts. Some
equate the nephesh to the "reptile brain," the primitive brain stem that governs
our most primal instincts and emotions.
