Oya (Yansa) is the Orisha of Storms, Lightning, and cemeteries. She is a warrior, the wife of Chango. She epitomizes female power and righteous anger, and is represented by a whirlwind. Oya controls wind and storms, and is called upon to protect from them.

Symbols:

Colors: Maroon or aubergine (eggplant purple)

Saint: St. theresa

In Vodou, Oya is called Manman Brigitte, the swaggering, rum dringing wife of Baron. She may be directly related to the Greek warrior goddess Minerva, through her Irish counterpart Brighid.

Pronunciation: Oi-yah • (noun)
