Samhain was the Celtic autumnal feast. Regarded as the New Year, it was marked with elaborate feasts for the dead and ritual bonfires.

In Wicca and other Pagan traditions, Samhain is an autumn Sabbat held in honor of the dead, and modeled after the Celtic Folk holiday of the same name. Samhain is a Celtic word meaning "Autumn."
