From the Old Norse. Seiðr is a type of Shamanic folk magic and shamanic technique practiced by solitary Norse witches and healers; also refers to the magic in modern Asatru. Traditionally, seiðr included both 'good' magic (healing,shape-shifting etc.) and 'black' (curses, raising storms, etc.), but excluded practices such as Rune magic. A good portion of Seid magic was concerned with communication with spirits; the word shares a common root with the word "seance."
