Alternative Religion/ Religious Resources/Glossary/Afro-caribbean
Definition:
Kolams are large, intricate figures representing various Hindu deities
and auspicious signs. They are drawn on altars and outside of doorways. Similar
to
the veves of Vodoun, they are drawn on the ground with white powder (usually
ground rice or powdered stone). They must be drawn unicursally (in one continuous
line),
so
it
is considered a skill to be able to complete one without pause.
