In adopting the ancient idea of a Trinity in Unity they also adopted as its symbol the equilateral triangle, an emblem so old, so universal, so widespread that its origin is lost in that unfathomable past, that so reluctantly delivers its secrets.

The Triangle, as we have seen in the symbols of the elements, was u.sed to typify fire.

Two interlacing triangles forming a six-pointed star represented the two chief forces of nature, fire . which flames up and water which flows down. It thus became a perfect androgynous symbol of the two forces that create life, the triangle with point upward typifying fire or the masculine force, and that with the apex below, water, or the passive principle. This same form is also the Hexagram or Solomon's Seal with which he was said to have worked miracles. Sometimes the lower triangle is dark and the upper one light, typifying the union of the spiritual and material, or spirit and matter.
