Among the Raelian guides (priests), are a select set of women known as Rael's Angels. These women are seen to best embodying the qualities and ideals of the religion. Most Angels are identifiable by a white feather hanging from their neck, although different colored feathers indicate particular groups within the Angels.
Purpose The primary purpose of Rael's Angels is to provide staff for the Elohim embassy once it is built and the Elohim and have made their presence known to the world. Indeed, it would only be the Angels who are allowed inside, providing for the Elohim's needs.
Since the embassy has not even been built, and the Elohim are not going to come until such a structure is built, the Angels currently have a secondary purpose: to embody femininity and instruct others how to embrace it.
SexualityWhile most angels are allowed to also carry on a regular life with their own careers and sexual partners, the highest order of Angels are expected to remain pure for the Elohim and, indeed, to be willing to serve any of their needs as requested. As such they are allowed only to have sex with the Elohim or with each other. Some have criticized Rael for this stipulation since Rael himself is considered an Elohim, the only one currently on the planet. However, no Angel is ever forced into this role. If an Angel is selected to be elevated to this rank, she still has to choose to accept it. These angels wear a pink feather instead of a white one.
These high ranked angels are also expected to physically protect the Elohim (including Rael) in a manner similar to that of the Secret Service, potentially throwing themselves in harm's way to protect the Elohim.
Minors can join Rael's Angels, but they wear a black feather to indicate their age and, thus, the expectation that no Raelian ever approach her for sex.
Representatives of FemininityThe Raelian Movement feels that today's society is overly masculine and would benefit from the encouragement of more feminine qualities such as empathy. A primary function of Rael's Angels are to serve as examples of femininity as well as help encourage these traits in other people both male and female. The Angels also encourage self-confidence in women, underscoring the equality of men and women and fighting traditional sexist beliefs.
In order to carry out these duties, potential Angels are evaluated on their "religiosity, discipline, serenity, harmony, purity, humility, charisma, [and] inner and outer beauty." (As reported by a woman who received an email from the Raelian organization, full email reprinted here) Angels are meant to entertain, carry on intelligent conversation, socialize well with others, and behave morally.
